LSK accuses police of perpetuating extra-judicial killings
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has accused the police of engaging in and abetting extra-judicial killings targeting civilians.
LSK president Isaac Okero said at least 177 cases of extra judicial killings have been reported in Africa out of which 122 were documented in Kenya.
While addressing the media at LSK headquarters,Okero cited last year’s Amnesty International report that ranked Kenya as the top country with cases of police shootings and killings targeting civilians.
The report says, “out of the 177 cases of extrajudicial killings reported in Africa, 122 cases occurred in Kenya.”
He added that this figure could be well be higher as there is lack of an official or formal database of extrajudicial killings or enforced disappearance.
LSK maintained many cases of unexplained disappearance were reported at Coastal region under the guise of fighting terrorism and insurgent Al Shabaab terror network.
