Legislators retreat to share out Parliamentary leadership positions
Azimio One Kenya alliance and Kenya Kwanza have planned retreats for their Members of Parliament (MPs) to share out parliamentary leadership positions.
Legislators affiliated to Azimio will hold a two-day retreat this weekend at Stoni Athi Resort in Machakos county while MPs affiliated to President William Ruto’s alliance will be in Naivasha from tomorrow to Saturday.
The MPs will discuss how they will share leadership positions in the National Assembly and Senate.
Parliament has been the new battlefront for the coalitions amid intense lobbying for the leadership positions in the two Houses and membership in the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC).
The new parliamentary committees will have one Vice-Chairperson after a proposal to create a second position was defeated on the floor of the House.
The changes to the National Assembly Standing Orders, however, increased the number of committees from 34 to 41 setting the stage for an increase in the monthly sitting allowances at a time when the country is looking for avenues to cut down on allowances.
