Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip has been released on Sh500,000 bail or an Sh1 million bond after the shooting incident involving him and a 32-year-old woman in Nanyuki, Laikipia County.
The senator allegedly shot and wounded the lady identified as Joy Makena at the Kanu ground on Saturday night after an altercation.
Appearing before Nanyuki Resident Magistrate, Vincent Masivo, Loitiptip was ordered to present himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) every two days.
The prosecution led by Jackson Motende asked the court to detain him on grounds that the police needed more time to investigate.
Howevr, Masivo declined the police request to hold Loitiptip for five days pending the conclusion of investigations.
Lotiptip surrendered at Nanyuki police station last evening where his gun was seized.
According to the police, Makena, 32, was shot and wounded on her right leg, above the ankle.
Makena told police she was shot by Anuar of Jubilee party after a quarrel broke out between her and the senator.
“He then fled the scene leaving behind his bodyguard and other supporters to attend to me,” she said.
They rushed her to the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital where she was admitted.
According to the police, the shooting occurred at 2am on Saturday night.
Police are conducting investigations to collect statements of accounts from both parties before they make a decision on what charges to bring against the senator.
