Laboso urges electorates not to vote in independent candidates

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso has become the latest politician in the country to discourage candidates running as independent being elected.

The Sotik MP asked electorates to trade carefully and avoid electing independent candidates.
Laboso has said having many independent candidates in parliament will make it difficult to run a government.

“Imagine a parliament with independent candidates. How will the government whip them to pass issues that are of public interest,” said Laboso.

Speaking to the press after attending a brief with IEBC in Bomet town a head of the election, Laboso said the country is better run by leaders allied to political parties.

“We better have leaders who are allied so that Kenyans can have people who they can bank on to push for their interest in the various parties.” She said.

Bomet County is among the counties in the country with Members of Parliament and Members of County Assembly who are seeking election as independent candidates.

Some of the independent candidates were defeated during the party primaries and have poked holes into the party nominations saying it does not represent the will of the people.

Notable names eying parliamentary seats in Bomet as independednt candidates are Konoin MP Sammy Koech his Bomet East Counterpart Bernard Bett and former ambassador Francis Sigei.

The three lost during the Jubilee party primaries and have shipped out to try their luckin defending their seats.

Koech lost to his archrival Brighton Yegon in Konoin while Bett lost to former Home Affairs Assistant Minister Beatrice Kones.

Sigei on his part lost the Jubilee party ticket in Sotik in his attempts to succeed Laboso who is seeking to unseat Governor Ruto.

Opposition chief Raila Odinga is among leaders in the country who have asked Kenyans to shun Independent candidates a head of the general election.
Odinga drummed up support for NASA and ODM candidate in his stronghold.
