KVF shortlists 13 for four Malkia Strikers technical bench positions
The role of assistant coaches which KVF advertised for two has seven contestants
Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) has shortlisted 13 names who are vying for four positions in the women’s national team, Malkia Strikers.
According to a memo sent to stakeholders by KVF Secretary General Isaac Chege, three top names listed for head coach role are; Geoffrey Omondi (level 2 badge holder), Japheth Munala (level 2 badge holder) and Catherine Mabwi (level 3 badge holder). Omondi and Munala are seen as frontrunners given their expertise with successful clubs – Kenya Pipeline Corporation (KPC) and Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).
The role of assistant coaches which KVF advertised for two has seven contestants. Marvin Tuikong, who is a Level 2 badge holder, leads the list alongside Samuel Mugata, who is also level 2 holder attached in Vihiga. David Muthui has also made the cut having served before as an assistant coach in the women’s national team. He is a level 2 holder attached to KCB volleyball club presently.
Others who are eying the two assistant coaching positions include Josephat Barasa of Prisons, who has also served as senior women team coach before. The level 2 holder is currently attached at Prisons Club as head coach. The others are Esther Chepkosgei, who is level 2 badge holder, who is presently an assistant coach with Kenya Pipeline Corporation as well as Vernon Khayinga who is head coach of Post Bank but has had a stint with the senior women team.
The level 2 tactician is also experienced in the game over the years.
In the same category, Jackline Barasa who is a level 1 certified coach has also been shortlisted. The current Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) head coach is also an experienced hand in the sport having worked for Malkia Strikers sometime back.
As for the physical trainer role, three names have been listed all from Nairobi. They are Sally Wanjala, who is coach at Nairobi Prisons and is a level 2 certified trainer once attached with the senior women team. Also in the mix is Jeremiah Mukopi of DCI (level 2) and Azenga Mavisi of Prisons (level 2). Mavisi who has been an assistant coach with the senior women team has considerable experience in national duties.
