Top Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) management including Managing Director Joe Sang and Company Secretary Gloria Khafafa yesterday snubbed summons by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (Eacc) under unclear circumstances.
Khafafa was scheduled to appear yesterday at 9amwhileSang was expected yesterday at 2pm none appeared. Also, eight other officials serving in mid level management at KPC did not show up for grilling.
“No one has showed up yet. The summonses were formal. Some have recorded statements since Monday.”An Eacc official intimated. They were required to shed light into alleged irregular procurement flaws amounting to close to Sh1billion.
Khafafa, the Company Secretary is accused of having been recruited to her current position using questionable academic credentials. Eacc detectives are also investigating stalled project involving Line 1 replacement, a lucrative deal awarded to Zakhem at a cost of Sh480million in 2014.
Recently, KPC senior officials were accused of stealing 300,000 liters of fuel from the storage, and the cost of the same passed over to consumers. In 2015, KPC was probed by Eacc over alleged fleecing taxpayers in excess of a half billion shillings paid to ghost companies in shady tendering deals.
The tender involved fictitious companies and KPC officials who inflated prices for spares for a hydrant system. Aero Dispenser Valve Ltd, was awarded the tender for supplying the hydrant replacements at a cost of Sh600million.
