KPA and Kenya Prisons lose in CAVB-Africa Men’s Volleyball Club Championships

Kenya Ports Authority and Kenya Prisons both lost their second group stage matches in the ongoing CAVB-Africa Men’s Volleyball Club Championships in Misurata, Libya thus making their prosperity chances minimal.

This is coming as title hopefuls General Service Unit (GSU) won their match against Fath Union Sport de Rabat of Morocco 3-2 (18-25/25-14/22-25/25-20/16-14) in an epic battle in a Group B preliminary contest. The win means GSU have won in three straight matches which makes them in good stead to enter the knockout stages of the 46th edition of the competition.

The Kenyans set the tone early by taking the first set 25–22. However, the Moroccans responded strongly in the second set, raising their intensity at the net to claim it 25–21. The third set proved to be the most competitive, with FUS narrowly edging out GSU 27–25, giving them a 2–1 lead.

Refusing to back down, General Service Unit rallied with determination in the fourth set, showing great cohesion and control to win 25–18 and force a decisive fifth set. In the tie-break, the Kenyan side displayed composure under pressure and clinched the victory 15–11 after 2 hours and 3 minutes of intense play.

Meanwhile another Kenyan side KPA, was humbled 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-19) by Esperance de Tunis in a Group D contest. Espérance imposed its rhythm with precision and power, taking control of the opening set 25-17. The Tunisian side tightened its grip in the second set, widening the gap through efficient blocking and aggressive service games to win 25-12. Although the Dockers from the coastal Kenyan city of Mombasa showed resilience in the final set, they were ultimately unable to disrupt the Tunisian side’s blitz, succumbing 25-19.

The capital side amassed a total of 75 points against 48 for Kenya Ports Authority, wrapping up the match in just 1 hour and 4 minutes. Each set unfolded swiftly—lasting 20, 21, and 23 minutes respectively—illustrating Espérance’s dominance from start to finish.

At the same time, Prisons lost their second group stage 3-2 (25-21/25-22/20-25/23-25/11-15) match against Mauritian side Rodrigues Oranges Club Sportif d’Amitié. The Prisons side started off well but slackened thus the upset which caught observers by surprise.

Kenya Prisons asserted their dominance, claiming the first set 25–21. They continued their momentum by taking the second set 25–22, suggesting a smooth path toward victory.

However, the Mauritian side had other plans. Demonstrating remarkable resilience and determination, Rodrigues Oranges fought back fiercely. They captured the third set 25–20, then leveled the match in the fourth with a narrow 25–23 win, shaking the confidence of their Kenyan opponents.

The fifth and final set was nothing short of electrifying. In a tense and high-stakes conclusion, Rodrigues Oranges took control and sealed the deal with a 15–11 win. The final score: 3 sets to 2 (21–25, 22–25, 25–20, 25–23, 15–11), after 1 hour and 57 minutes of intense play.
