A meeting between the nurses’ union and ministry of health officials held today to iron out contentious issues and unlock the current ?impasse ended in a stalemate.?
The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) officials, who met a powerful delegation from the ministry, termed the engagement “successful talks” but added a deal to end the strike failed to materialize.?
Secretary General Seth Panyako (pictured) said the national government showed? goodwill in the protracted talks and both sides agreed to meet on ?Thursday as the state requested for some time to deliberate on issues?raised.? “We have definitely set the ball rolling and theere is light at the ?end of the tunnel.
“I can confirm for sure we had a cordial engagement with the hierarchy?from the health ministry. Although we cleared some hurdles we did not? arrive at an amicable solution so the strike is definitely on,” said? Panyako.?
Panyako disclosed the talks centred on restructuring the Collective?Bargaining Agreement CBA but he was non committal on what transpired ?on the issue, refusing to divulge further details.?
He added: “Although the talks have been progressive we will not cede ?ground on the stalemate unless the CBA ratified and registered in a ?court of law.”
