Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa released on Sh100,000 cash bail

Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has been released on a Sh.100,000 cash bail after he was arrested for assaulting a contractor.
His arrest came after the contractor, Steve Kay obtained a P3 form, accusing the him of causing him of grievously harming is body.
Appearing before Kimilili Law Courts Resident Magistrate Gladys Adhiambo, he denied the charges and was released on a bond of Sh.150,000 with one surety or a cash bail of Sh.100,000.
“The offence which the accused is an offence which is of a personal nature and the parties are at a liberty to explore reconciliation. It is thus my view that denying the accused an opportunity to reach out to the complainant specifically for purposes of reconciliation will be against the spirit of alternative dispute reconciliation. The accused is granted bond on condition that he/ or his acquittances refrains from intimidating, threatening or coercing with the complainant or with the witnesses of the complainant,” said Magistrate Adhiambo.
The case was set for mentioning on September 27, 2021.
Speaking to the press after the court session, Barasa termed the case as a political witch-hunt allegedly spearheaded by lawyer Khaemba whom he claimed is keen on succeeding him in the Kimilili parliamentary seat.
He was early morning arrested by officers from Kimilili Police Station at his Nasianda village home.
In a video that went viral Barasa is seen arguing with the contractor before slapping him, when he arrived at a school in Kamukuywa ward to open classes built by the National Government Constituency Development Fund.
Steve Kay also known as Stephen Masinde and his colleague Ronald Graham Wafula refused to allow the MP to open classrooms until the constituency owing him Sh3.4 million was settled.
Masinde spent Sh4.4 million upgrading five classrooms at Lurare Primary School in Kamukuywa Town, Kimilili Constituency.
