Kidero leads in Nairobi governor seat race, new poll shows

Nairobi governor Evans Kidero and Senator Mike Sonko are neck to neck ahead of the August 8 poll, a new survey shows.

According to the opinion poll Kidero is ahead of Sonko with one percentage point at 44 percent while Sonko is second with 43 percent.

Independent candidates Peter Kenneth and Miguna Miguna are a distant third and fourth with 4 percent and one percent respectively while undecided are at eight percent.

Speaking when she released the poll, TIFA Director Maggie Ireri said Kidero is in the lead because of the support of National super Alliance (NASA) support as opposed to Sonko.

The poll also shows that 39 per cent of the NASA supporters and three percent of Jubilee supporters would vote for Kidero while twenty seven per cent of supporters in the Jubilee party would vote for Sonko, compared to 12 percent in the National Super Alliance.

Said Ireri: “The two leading governor candidates are attracting voters from various political parties. However Mike Sonko attracts a higher proportion of supporters that are not from his party as compared to Evans Kidero.””

In the polls, a majority of those who said they will not vote for Kidero said this is because he had not delivered his promises, the city is very dirty, poor leadership, high taxation, being anti social to people in low class as well as well as due to corruption.
