
Kenyan teams fell short in the 2025 AHF-Africa Cup for Club Championship in Ismailia, Egypt after failing to make it to the podium as Mombasa Sports Club and Sikh Union Club were both eliminated in the Playoffs Friday.
Debutants MSC were very unlucky as the 35th edition came to a close with the coastal side lost by a solitary goal in the bronze medal category against Nigerian side Kada Queens. The goal after a lapse and poor communication between the goalkeeper and his defenders. The loss meant Mombasa Sports Club finished fourth at their first time of asking in the continental showpiece. Queen Esther Njoku scored the West Africans winning goal in the dying minutes of the game from a counter attack.
On the other hand, Sikh Union Club for the men’s division fell through after a 4-3 loss to Egyptian outfit Port Fouad in the third place playoffs. Despite a promising start, the Pharaohs came to the party recharged and camped at the Sikhs defensive area. Two quick goals inside five minutes gave the Egyptians a good lead with Mohammed Hussein on a brace and Ali El Sayed with another to go to the break with a safe lead after Sikh had opened the goal charts via Yuvraj Mamliki inside six minutes of play.
The Kenyan side returned determined with a push as they cut the deficit in the 32nd minute courtesy of a Matthew Golalire penalty corner. Another successful penalty corner conversion would even the score to 3-3 and shake up the home team a bit as the Sikhs began to grow in confidence with their play as the third quarter ended. The fourth quarter was more about caution as no side wanted to cave with mistakes.
Port Fouad patience paid big time after getting a penalty corner in the latter stages of the match with the lively Reda Ahmed converting a penalty corner. Afterwards, it was a bout game management and defensive discipline as the Egyptians ensured the 4-3 lead was sufficient to keep the medal home.
