Kenya will continue to support and promote peace in the region, President Ruto says

President William Ruto has today received Ambassador Mike Hammer, the United States Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa.

Ruto said that Kenya commits itself to play its part in keeping the region peaceful.

“Peace and stability are imperative in the development and prosperity of nations. Kenya appreciates the support and commitment of the United States towards peace and security in the Horn of Africa, particularly Ethiopia and DRC,” Ruto said.

The Envoy who was accompanied by the United States of America Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman affirmed US efforts in supporting peace and security particularly in Ethiopia and DRC.

He also thanked Kenya for her continued pivotal role in anchoring stability in the region.

The Head of State is back in the country a few hours after his visit in Ethiopia where he held talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Addis Ababa.

The two leaders agreed on the modalities to tackle terrorism and violent extremism so as to bring peace in the Horn of Africa, in its bid to stabilise food prices.

The President said Africa must strive to co-exist for more transformation to be realised in the continent.
