Immaculate Kassait Sworn in as Data Commissioner
Immaculate Kassait is officially Kenya’s Data Commissioner. She took her oath of office on Monday at the official office of the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary.
The oath was administered by Hon. Sharon Mwayuli an official from the Office of the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary presided over by Court of Appeal Registrar Moses Serem.
The appointment was announced in Parliament according to section 6 (4) of the Data Protection Act 2019, however, the appointment did not imply the start of her tenure.
President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed her as a Data Commissioner for a period of six years.

Immaculate served as the Director of Voters Registration and Electrol Operations at IEBC for 9 years; for four years she worked as the program manager at the Institute of Education for Education in Democracy and as the program officer in FIDA.
As the Data Commissioner, she will be responsible for the enforcement of the Data Protection Act with duties such as exercising oversight on data processing operations, promoting self-regulation among data controllers, promoting international cooperation in data protection related issues, and conducting research on data processing development.
