Ignore KCSE, KCSE candidates mass failure report, says Magoha

Education CS George Magoha has said teachers have prepared candidates and they are ready for the KCPE and KCSE exams due in under two weeks.

The CS on Wednesday said reports based on Knec assessments indicating that the candidates are ill-prepared are inaccurate as they date 12 weeks back.

He said since then, candidates have improved in performance.

Magoha said teachers have played a critical role in ensuring the learners are prepared.

He also reaffirmed that learners involved in arson will be punished.

Magoha said parents will bear the cost burden of paying for what is destroyed.

The Knec report showed major learning gaps candidates suffered during the shutdown of schools due to the pandemic.

The findings are contained in an assessment administered in October 2020 to all candidates that adopted an exam-like model in all examinable subjects.

The assessment shows that the majority of Class Eight learners performed below average, failing to attain the minimum benchmark (50 per cent) in most of the subject assessed.

For instance in Mathematics, English Composition and Kiswahili Insha only 34.5, 39.9 and 45.1 per cent of the learners respectively attained 50 per cent of the total mark.
