“If we succeed, we shall be winners; if we lose, we shall still be winners” Raila say on AUC contest
He will faceoff with Mahmoud Ali Youssouf (Djibouti) and Madagascar's Richard Randriamandrato
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Kenya’s candidate for the upcoming African Union Chairmanship (AUC) contest has today expressed confidence of trouncing his two arch rivals saying he is ready to accept any eventual outcome.
During a dedication prayer ceremony for his AUC bid held at the Bomas of Kenya, Raila promised to accept the election outcome, a win or lose, emphasising that Kenya will have made a statement regardless of the result.
The interdenominational prayer service organised for him by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Women’s Chapter ahead of the polls, Raila expressed confidence in his chances while urging his supporters to remain calm.
“By God’s grace, I know I shall win. If we succeed, we shall be winners; if we lose, we shall still be winners,” Raila said.
To secure victory, he will need the support of two-thirds of the 55 AU member states, translating to at least 33 votes.
He will faceoff with Mahmoud Ali Youssouf (Djibouti) and Madagascar’s Richard Randriamandrato on February 15 and 16, 2025 seeking to succeed outgoing AU chairperson Moussa Faki of Chad whose term comes to an end next year.
