The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) election has temporarily halted elections for the parliamentary seat in Rongai Constituency, Nakuru county due to a mix-up in ballot papers.
This is after it emerged that the ballot papers were mixed up with those of Kuresoi North and some were also missing
Nakuru County IEBC manager Joseph Melle, confirmed the discrepancy though he was not willing to divulge any further information saying the Commission will comment on the matter.
Despite the mishap, voting for the other elective posts is still underway.
This comes after IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati suspended elections in four elective seats across the country following a mix up in the printing of ballot papers.
The commission suspended gubernatorial elections in Kakamega and Mombasa counties and parliamentary elections in Pokot South and Kacheliba constituency.
Speaking during a press conference at the Bomas of Kenya, Chebukati stated that poll dates will be announced through a gazette notice.
“As a result, elections for the respective positions have been suspended to a later date that shall be announced through a gazette notice,” Chebukati stated.
“Ballot papers for Mombasa governor position have wrong gubernatorial candidates’ pictures and their images printed on them. Ballot papers for Kacheliba constituency have wrong member of National Assembly candidates’ pictures and their images printed on them,” he added.
Chebukati also said ballot papers for five constituencies were wrongly routed to Chuka Ingambeng’ombe in Tharaka Nithi county.
He said county assembly ballot papers for Mua ward in Machakos county were erroneously sent to Kuresoi constituency in Nakuru county.
