The panel has invited applications through the national dailies for the vacant positions following a vacancy announced by President Ruto in 2023.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has begun the process to replace former Chairman Wafula Chebukati and six commissioners.
The IEBC selection recruitment panel has invited applications through the national dailies for the vacant positions following a vacancy announced by President Ruto in 2023.

“We encourage all qualified Kenyans with integrity, experience, and expertise to apply and be part of the electoral process,” they said in the advert.
Those applying for the Chairman’s position must meet the qualifications of a Supreme Court Judge, including fifteen years of experience as a superior court judge or distinguished legal academic, and judicial capacity.
The applicants must also fulfill requirements of the Chapter Six of the Constitution on integrity and leadership.
The IEBC Chairperson applicant MUST have never vied for any elective post or be a leader of any political party in the last five years.
For those applying for the Commissioners position, they must have a degree from a recognized institution and have at least 10 years of experience in the fields of electoral matters, governance, law, public administration, finance/accounting or ICT.
They also need to meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity.

The applicants are required to submit their detailed resumes, certified copies of academic copies, and professional certificates, national ID copies or passport, testimonials and clearance certificates from relevant government agencies, including the Kenya Revenue Authority, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
The nine-member selection committee panel who were sworn in yesterday shall be chaired by Nelson Makanda and deputized by Lindah Kiome.
It consists of Adams Oloo from the Parliamentary Service Commission; James Misati, Nicodemus Bore, and Koki Muli from the Political Parties Liason Committee.
Andrew Kipkoech Tanui from the Institute of Certified Public Accounts (ICPAK) and Carolene Kituku from the Law Society of Kenya will also sit on the panel.
The committee gave itself not more than 85 days to deliver the commissioners as they are on a race against time.
“In the next 85 or less days, the selection panel shall deliver its mandate of giving Kenyans the next IEBC chairperson. We have invited applications from qualified Kenyans,” Makanda said in a statement.
“I assure Kenyans that the panel is committed to conducting the recruitment in an impartial, fair, and transparent manner,” he added.
In January 2023, the terms of the Chairperson (Wafula Chebukati) and Commissioners Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu expired.
Three others, Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyang’aya, and Francis Wanderi resigned while Irene Masit was dismissed after a tribunal.
The electoral body has been left without a full set of commissioners for over two years causing delays and challenges in its operation.
