IEBC prohibits unnecessary movement at Bomas of Kenya as verification process takes shape

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has prohibited any unnecessary movement inside and outside the Bomas of Kenya as the presidential verification process continues at the National Tallying Centre.

The move according to IEBC will expedite the verification which has kept Kenyans eargerly waiting for their next leader to be declared.

Electoral body commissioner Abdi Guliye stated that only chief presidential agents from the four presidential candidates and their assistants will be allowed in the auditorium.

“We have made changes as to who can access the tallying centre and we will only allow chief presidential agents, their deputies and clerks to access the auditorium, nobody else is allowed in this auditorium,” Guliye said.

Guliye made it clear that only presidential agents, their assistants, chiefs agents, deputy chief agents, clerks, observers, diplomats and the media have been allowed on the floor where tallying is ongoing.

The announcement, however, did not sit well with a section of political leaders present, with some shutting down Guliye.

Guliye’s sentiments come in the wake of the verification process being disrupted as political leaders from the opposing sides engaged in a scuffle.

Notable leaders present from Azimio la Umoja include Homabay Governor-elect Gladys Wanga, Ruaraka MP-elect Tom Kajwang, Nairobi Senator-elect Edwin Sifuna, Suna East MP-elect Junet Mohammed among others.

Kenya Kwanza Alliance leaders present include Kipchumba Murkomen, Former Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok, Kandara MP-elect Alice Wahome.

This comes a day after the result verification process at the tallying centre was brought to a standstill following scuffles between political leaders from Azimio la Umoja One Kenya and their counterparts in Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
