The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) has urged police to speed up their investigations into the death of Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Embakasi East Returning Officer Daniel Mbolu Musyoka.
The ICJ has also recommended the Director of Public Prosecutions should move swiftly on the evidence that would be obtained by the Police and Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) in order to provide closure to the deceased’s family.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, Commission and the country at large,” ICJ said as they condemned the murder. Every person has the right to life, freedom and security even in the context of elections.” they stated.
The post-mortem of the body of the murdered IEBC official who was found dead in Loitokitok on Monday was done yesterday.
Mbolu 53, went missing on August 11 and he could not be located. His body was found in Kajiado Loitoktok.
Loitoktok Police Commander Kipruto Ruto confirmed his death as the body was identified by his sister’s Mary Mwikali and Ann Mboya at the sub-county mortuary.
“His two sisters confirmed the body lying at Loitoktok sub-county hospital last night was that of their brother. We are awaiting communication from Police Headquarters on whether to ferry the body to the City Mortuary or have it remain here,” he said
On August 12, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati announced Mbolu went missing on August 11 and could not be found.
“The Returning Officer has been reported missing from the Embakasi Tallying Centre. Reports received by the Commission indicated that at around 9am on August 11, he was escorted to the tallying centre and at around 9:45 am he excused himself to make a phone call but did not return,” Chebukati said.
