I will spearhead employment through ICT, CS nominee ICT Eliud Owalo says

Cabinet Secretary nominee for ICT and Digital Economy, Eliud Owalo has envisaged how he will spearhead creation of jobs through ICT for unemployed youths in the country.

Speaking during the vetting of CS nominees by the Committee on Appointments at the National Assembly, he said that he will encourage the culture of entrepreneurship through effective deployment of ICT once he is approved to head the docket.

“We envisage to create a critical mass of digital jobs with a view to effectively bring into the job market current unemployed youth who are qualified but lack opportunities,” he said.

“We will equip not just high school students with the relevant IT skills but also ensure that correspondingly the teaching fraternity are well equipped so that young people can also get into the job market with skills that can encourage entrepreneurship to curb unemployment,” he added.

During the vetting, Owalo added that he planned to rebrand the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) to ensure that it gets back its effective positioning in the market.

“I intend to revatualise the operations of KBC by rebranding it, reengineering its content so that it gets effective positioning in the market,” he said.

The CS nominee also disclosed his net worth as Sh645 million.

Other CS nominees scheduled for vetting include CS nominee Education, Ezekiel Machogu, CS nominee Agriculture and Livestock Development, Mithika Linturi, CS nominee Youth Affairs, Sports and Arts, Ababu Namwamba.
