Head of Govt Delivery Services resigns

Seasoned public servant Peter Mbae has stepped down as the Head of Government Delivery Services (GDC) in protest allegedly after failing to get support in effecting his duties.

A letter seen by Informer Media Group and copied to the Head of Public Service Felix Koskei and dated January, 9, 2025 pointed to a clearly frustrated man. Mbae was appointed by the Public Service Commission as Secretary Investments Promotion in January 2023 (Office of the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry (MITI), where he also served as the Head of the Ministerial Delivery Unit.

His letter in part read; “In June 2024, I was appointed as Head of Government Delivery Services (GDS) to among other things, oversee the implementation of Government programmes and projects across Ministries, Departments and Agencies. In these positions, I served diligently with utmost commitments and sacrifice, driven solely by the by the genuine desire to achieve sustainable transformation in the lives of citizens in line with the Kenya Kwanza Government manifesto.”

Mbae, who was also appointed earlier in October 2023 as Head of Ministerial Programmes in the Office of the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management further stated;

“However despite my passion, focus and consistency, for reasons and issues that I have consistently brought to your attention and have not been resolved to date, it has not been possible to carry out my duties as intended and my position as Head of Government Delivery Services is no longer tenable.”

In his conclusion, his letter states that he needed to relinquish his appointment forthwith. “In order to be accountable to the people of Kenya, owing to the fact that the appointment was widely circulated, I therefore request to formally disengage from this appointment so as to pursue other interests. I thank you for the opportunity and trust you bestowed on me to serve in the public service.”
