Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has signalled her exit from Jubilee Party
and entry into Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Waiguru said her supporters will inform her decision on the party she will use to defend her gubernatorial seat in next year’s General Elections.
While addressing Mwea residents after inspecting County development Projects Waiguru said voters were piling pressure on her to defect from the ruling party to UDA.
“I ask you my brothers and sisters, because I’m told you will reelect me, which party should I use?” posed Waiguru.
“If I vie on that party ticket, will you reelect me come 2022? I will say, about my move, that I followed the will of my constituents.”
Waiguru said she will follow the political path of the majority residents who have been leaning towards UDA.
Earlier, the Kirinyaga Governor claimed that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) was being used to settle political scores.
She said her woes are due to remarks she made stating that Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) was dead and that she was re-considering her political options.
The governor’s support for Jubilee Party has been shaky expressing fears of losing her seat if she was to seek re-election via the ruling party ticket in the 2022 General Election.
Further, Waiguru said her competitor Martha Karua whom she defeated in 2017 should leave Kirinyaga politics and work as Mt Kenya spokesperson.
Waiguru had said she cannot rule out working with Ruto in 2022 but also said it
was still too early to tell whether she could join UDA.
However, her defecting to UDA could complicate issues since Woman Representative Purity Ngirici announced her intrest in Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat through UDA ticket.
