The government intends to complete upgrading of 25 ultra-modern public primary and secondary schools in slum areas of Nakuru, Nairobi and Mombasa by May this year.
Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Ida Munano says the integrated development program seeks to provide essential learning facilities to over stretched schools in informal settlement areas in a bid to expand access to quality basic education among children born to vulnerable households in urban areas.
According to Munano, the multi-billion shillings ambitious program would see a significant reduction of illiteracy levels among the urban poor as the government envisages an upscale in enrollment in to schools among children in informal settlements across Nakuru, Mombasa and Nairobi.
The PS was speaking in Nakuru West Constituency yesterday after she inspected construction work of a Sh500 million Kaptembwa Primary and Nakuru West Secondary schools that were captured in the integrated program.
