Government outline measures on implementation of NHIF to NSHIF
Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumincha today received a courtesy call from the leadership of the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) and the management of the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to discuss the ongoing restructuring process of the National Social Health Insurance Fund (NSHIF).
The government is on course to restructure NHIF to NSHIF as part of the Universal Health Coverage reforms.
The NSHIF will ensure that Kenyans can access quality and affordable healthcare, as envisaged in the Kenya Kwanza manifesto of achieving universal health coverage for all.
The FKE leadership expressed their support for the government’s efforts to provide universal health coverage for all Kenyans and suggested measures to ensure that employers and employees are adequately represented in the new NSHIF governance structure.
The NHIF chairperson and CEO pledged to work closely with the government to ensure the successful implementation of the restructuring process.
They also highlighted the importance of public education and awareness-raising campaigns.
Nakhumincha thanked the FKE leadership and NHIF management for their commitment to improving the country’s healthcare system.
She emphasised the government’s determination to achieve universal health coverage, which is a key priority in the Big Four Agenda.
The meeting concluded with a commitment from all parties to continue working together towards the successful implementation of the NSHIF restructuring process, which is expected to bring significant improvements to the country’s healthcare system.
