Government announces 9,000 high school scholarships through Equity Foundation
The Government has announced 9,000 Elimu Fund scholarships for needy learners across the country.
Through a statement, the Ministry of Education has outlined the fund’s eligibility requirements, which included a minimum 280-point score.
“Only candidates who sat the 2021 KCPE examinations from public primary schools in all 47 counties in the country are eligible,” the statement said.
Candidates with exceptional needs and disabilities, such as physical hearing and vision impairments, autism, albinism, learning disabilities, and other special requirements, must be eligible, according to the Ministry.
Scholarships will be awarded to orphans and vulnerable youngsters, as well as those from informal settlements in 15 urban areas.
Students whose parents or guardians have disabilities that have made it difficult for them to meet their children’s financial obligations, as well as those whose families are affected by HIV/AIDS or other chronic illnesses with debilitating effects that could leave parents and guardians destitute and unable to care for their families, are also eligible.
Applications are open till May 6 as learners begin reporting to respective secondary schools on May 4.
The scholarship covers the beneficiaries’ school fees, transportation to and from school, supplies, and pocket money for their four-year secondary education.
The scholarship program is implemented by the Ministry in collaboration with the Equity Group Foundation (EGF).
This batch of students will be the third to benefit from the scholarship program.
