President Kenyatta nominates Mbinya Mutuku, John Ogallo as Eacc commissioners

President Uhuru Kenyatta has today nominated Dr. Cecilia Mutuku and John Ogallo as commissioners of the anti-graft body, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

The Head of State made the announcement through a correspondence addressed to the Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi who then relayed it to other legislators.

The National Assembly is expected to vet the qualifications of the two nominees within the next 28 days.

“Honourable Members, having received the report of the Public Service Commission on recruitment of persons for appointment as Commissioners, the His Excellency the President has forwarded the two names to fill the existing vacancies. He now seeks the approval of the nominees by this House,” Muturi said in a statement.

“Subsequently honourable Members, in accordance with the provisions of Standing Order 45, I hereby refer the Message from H.E. the President, together with the Curriculum Vitae and other testimonials of the nominees to the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs for consideration.”

The Committee is expected to notify the nominees and the general public of the time and place for holding the approval hearings and thereafter, upon conclusion of the hearings, table its report to enable the House to consider the matter within the statutory timelines.
