Attack on Raila’s chopper was politically instigated, says CS Matiang’i

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’I has told the National Assembly that politicians orchestrated the attack on Azimio la Umoja’s presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Matiang’i says the security apparatus will give a substantive report on who is responsible for the attack following the courts granting the police 14 days to conclude investigations into the matter.

Those found guilty will face the full wrath of the law and be an example to Kenyans at large to shun voter bribery and renting of crowds to cause violence.

According to Matiangi, National Assembly Committee on Administration and National Security, assured Kenyans that the government is vigilant and on high alert and that any politically-instigated violence will be prosecuted.

According to the security apparatus present during the arrest, most suspects had money in Sh50 denominations.

Matang’i spoke on the proliferation of illegal firearms in the country, attributing it to the porous South Sudan border which has become a common ground for the illicit trade.  The CS is also keen on ensuring that banditry in Pokot and Turkana is dealt with accordingly. The government hopes to ensure the areas access development for peace to prevail.
