Gachagua dismiss call to reduce fertiliser price to Sh1500

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed a call from Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago to further lower the price of fertiliser from the current Sh3,500 to Sh1,500.

Gachagua, speaking during a thanksgiving service today in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county said that the current country’s economy could not allow further reduction of the price of fertiliser.

“We have already reduced the price of fertiliser from Sh6,500 to Sh3,500. Let’s tell each other the truth, the best we can try is to reduce the price to Sh2,500 because of the poor state of the current economy,” he said.

He also assured farmers that they would have access to sufficient fertilisers during the next rainy season.

“I know by the time the reduction was made you had already planted. Plans are underway for provision of sufficient fertiliser in the next rainy season,” he added.

He also assured Uasin Gishu residents that a 2year plan is underway for those who did not have title deeds to acquire them.

“We have made plans in 2 years that every resident of Uasin Gishu County will have their own title deed,” he said.

Other leaders present were National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, House Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa, Senators Kipchumba Murkomen of Elgeyo Marakwet, Hillary Segei of Bomet, Samson Cherargei of Nandi and Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro among others.
