Four IEBC officials dismissed over electoral malpractices in Homa Bay
Four Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials have been dismissed ahead of tomorrow’s General Elections following arrest over various electoral malpractices in Ndhiwa constituency over the weekend.
The four were sacked after meeting with certain candidates yesterday including a presiding officer of a polling station in Kanyadoto ward, two deputy presiding officers of polling stations in the same ward, and a clerk of a polling station in Kwabwai ward.
According to Homa Bay County Returning Officer Fredrick Apopa, the officials were promptly sacked after being questioned by security authorities at the Ndhiwa Police Station.
“We’re hiring other people to replace the vacancies created by the dismissed individuals. They can no longer be trusted,” Apopa said.
The dismissed individuals were meeting politicians such as MCA and a parliamentary hopeful from a political party in the Ndhiwa seat.
He stated that they are still unaware of what the four had discussed in their talks.
“We’re working together with the police to investigate them. Appropriate action will be taken against them for attempting to engage in electoral malpractice,” Apopa said.
The incident became public after other concerned neighbors invaded the house and frog-matched the perpetrators before phoning the cops to arrest them.
They were later transported to the Ndhiwa police station for questioning.
