Four Baringo murder suspects released on bond
Four men suspected of killing two politicians from Tiaty, Baringo in February, were Friday released on bond by the High Court in Kabarnet, pending hearing of the case.
Musa Kisur Katurkana, Lomotongole Yatta, Danniel Lokitary Alias Dokta and Titus Longor Tuwot who were charged with the murder of Tiaty parliamentary aspirant Pepee Kitamba and Loyamorok MCA Kibet Cheretei, were each released on a Sh500,000 and two sureties of similar amount.
The prosecution had opposed their release saying it would undermine peace and public order since the incident had widely been reported in the media.
The defence counsel, however, rejected the argument saying their clients had been cooperative with the court and had not interfered with the case.
High Court Judge Edward Muriithi determined the bond terms after positive reports by the probation and the security team which found no compelling reason for denial of bail.
They are charged that on the February 18, 2017 at about Lamat T- Junction Bar and Restaurant in Marigat, Baringo South, jointly with others not before the court, the accused murdered Simon Pepee Kitamba. They were also charged with a second count of murdering Fredrick Kibet Cheretei.
The have denied the charges.
The case will be mentioned on June 15.
