Former Prisons Commissioner Isaiah Osugo is dead
Former and long serving Commissioner of Prisons Isaiah Osugo has passed on at the age of 67 while receiving treatment in Nairobi.
His nephew Boniface Kengere while confirming his death, said that he passed yesterday night at the Nairobi Hospital ICU after a long battle with cancer.
“He had battled cancer for about two years. After the August 2022 General elections, he was taken to India for specialised treatment. He came back but his health deteriorated in the last two weeks and was taken to Nairobi hospital,” Kengere told a local media station.
Osugo was appointed as prisons boss by former President Mwai Kibaki and is known for his transformational leadership and unique prison reforms since his appointment on September 2008.
His term was later extended for two years in 2016 by former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
He also served as the Nairobi Provincial Criminal Investigations Department (CID) chief.
