Former director of Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) and formerly in charge of Personnel at police headquarters, Vigilance House Charlton Murithi has died.
Murithi passed on today morning at the Kenyatta National Hospital where he had been admitted over cancer-related complications. His death was reported to the Capitol Hill Police Station under OB Number 03/19/08/2022.
“Charlton Murithi was getting cancer treatment at the KNH,” the report read. Murithi was the Director of the Kenya National Focal Point (KNFP) on Small Arms and Light Weapons until his death.
The institution was designed to control and coordinate countywide arms control activities and operations.
The deceased earlier worked as the director of personnel at Nairobi police headquarters and as a traffic commander. In 2015, he was entrusted with investigating TV preacher James Ng’ang’a in connection with the death of a woman in a car accident in Limuru.
This followed complaints that the previous team did not handle the investigations professionally, amid allegations of a cover-up involving the falsification of documents and tampering with evidence.
Officials at AIU claim he was able to professionalise operations and put in place systems that help the unit execute its job.
