Former DP Gachagua accuse president Ruto of sabotage over reconstitution of IEBC

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sustained his onslaught against his former boss and close ally-tuned foe, president William Ruto for allegedly intentionally delaying the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ahead of the 2027 presidential polls.
Speaking at a church service in Dandora yesterday Gachagua claimed of a scheme to manipulate the electoral process and undermine the will of the people in the upcoming 2027 general election.
He said the delay by the government is in clear defiance of the Constitution, the Kriegler report and other critical recommendations that guide the country’s electoral process.
“Besides the lack of IEBC, we are seeing leaders allied to the President threatening to either manipulate the elections’ outcome or forcefully extend his term limits. This is a clear indication that there is an agenda to subvert democracy in the upcoming elections,” Gachagua said.
He also condemned the ongoing wave of kidnappings targeting online government critics pointing an accusing finger on security agencies adding that the move undermines the freedoms and rights of the youth as enshrined in Chapter 4 of the Constitution.
“Let us not abduct and kill our children because of the online caricatures they are using to demonstrate their freedom of expression and make their agitations evident,” he added.
Regarding recent remarks by state officials asking parents to instill morals in their children, the former DP fired back saying that the leaders had lost the moral authority to call out bad behaviour due to their repeated vulgar statements in public platforms.
“Some leaders have made public statements which are far worse than any online post by our young ones. Such actions are not only setting a bad example but also undermining the same principles they claim to uphold,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua’s sentiments come amidst calls by leaders allied to him to form a political outfit with like-minded politicians that can rival the ruling UDA party in the 2027 elections.
