Former Ainabkoi MP William Chepkut is dead

Former Ainabkoi Member of Parliament William Chepkut died yesterday morning at the Mediheal Hospital in Parklands, Nairobi.

His family claimed that he had been ill for some time and succumbed to the illness.

According to some of Chepkut’s family members, they received the news of his passing from doctors at Mediheal and had been instructed to fly from Uasin Gishu County to the Nairobi-based hospital.

Enock Kosgei, Chepkut’s younger brother said that the former lawmaker’s condition had recently improved and that they hoped he would make a full recovery.

Between 2017 and 2022, Chepkut was elected as Ainabkoi MP.

He was later on defeated by Samuel Chepkong’a of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) for the Ainabkoi parliamentary seat in the most recent held general elections.

Chepkong’a garnered 26,479 votes against Chepkut’s 13,510.

In the 2017 elections, Chepkut defeated Chepkong’a, who was running for reelection as a Jubilee Party candidate.

Chepkut received 23,216 votes, while Chepkong’a received 19,140 votes.

Between 1997 until 2003, Chepkut worked as Nicholas Biwott’s personal assistant.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from Kenyatta University and a Master of Arts in Community Development from Jabalpur University in India.

Chepkut was renowned for his wonderful sense of humor both in the parliament and public.
