FKF launches Kwale Beach Soccer League

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has launched the Kwale Beach Soccer League with Kentaste Products Ltd as official sponsor.

The 14-week league is ongoing and runs through mid-August. It features 16 men’s teams and eight women’s teams from across Kwale County. Kentaste’s Ksh 1 million sponsorship will go toward playing equipment and facilitation for match officials.

FKF President Hussein Mohammed said: “This initiative reflects our renewed focus on empowering FKF Branches to lead in grassroots football which is fundamental and forms the base of the game. We are grateful to Kentaste for their support, which will boost the development of beach soccer in Kwale and beyond. As Kenya prepares to host the CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship in June 2025, this league forms part of our longterm plan to build a strong foundation for the game.”

FKF Kwale branch chairman Hamisi Mwakoja offered: “We welcome this partnership as a boost to local football development. The inclusion of women’s teams is also a big step in promoting inclusivity. For us, it is all about developing the game at the grassroots and this deal ensures we are headed the right direction”

On his part, Kentaste CEO Kyle Denning said: “Kentaste promotes active, healthy living – values aligned with sport. We’re proud to support a community-based tournament that helps young people grow through football.”

In the men’s category, the teams lined up for the league this year are Lowkey, Diani Stars, Orlando, Kombani Youth, Ukunda United, Block Boys, Veteran, Diani Tigers, Bonanza, Dolphin, Generation, Barbadoz, Gombato Youth, Real Junior, Mwamanga United and  Kongo.

The women’s category has Barbados Queens, Red Queens, Ocean Queens, Diani Queens, Diani Ladies, Mwanambeyu Girls, Diani Tigress and  Diani Starlets.

The launch of the league comes ahead of the CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship to be hosted in Mombasa from June 6-11.
