Five robbers killed in Nairobi during weekend

At least five robbers were shot dead by police in separate botched robbery incidents in Nairobi amid skyrocketing wave of crime in the city.

In the first incident, a male and a female suspects were shot dead in a hideout in Soweto in Kayole.

Police raided the house on Sunday afternoon after trailing them for hours.

An automatic pistol and a magazine were recovered.

“Police stormed the house and ordered them to surrender but they defied and started shooting. Two were fatally injured and an automatic pistol recovered.” Police report shows.

And in Mowlem area in Dandora, a middle aged man, who was terrorising and robbing pedestrians  was shot dead yesterday morning. A homemade gun was recovered.

Another 26-year- old suspect was shot dead in Pangani area by police on patrol while forcibly robbing pedestrians. An Ekol-Tuna pistol was recovered from him.

However, two of his accomplices managed to escape.

Police are grappling to contain the Gaza gang, a proscribed sect comprising youth armed with lethal weapons. The teen gangsters, who are for known for indiscriminately attacking and stabbing their victims, operate in Kayole, Dandora and Umoja estates in Nairobi.

In November last year, Superintendent of Police Eston Muthini Ndwiga was murdered while on his way home at dawn at Karagita within Mihango area in Kayole.
Eston was shot twice on the left side of the chest by the gunmen who carjacked him.
Meanwhile, In charge of Gatina Administration Police Camp Inspector of Police Bernard Ouma was attacked while on his way home and robbed of his Ceska Pistol serial number S/No F9701 loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.

At the time, Ouma was driving home in the company of a lady companion.
