Five more Mpox cases confirmed in Kenya, Nakuru leads with 10
The total number of Mpox cases reported in the country has now hit 36 from across 12 counties.

The ministry of Health says five new cases of Mpox have been reported in the last one week, three of which were reported two days ago.
The cases were reported from Kericho (1), Taita Teveta (1), which were reported on January 17 and the most recent cases were reported from Busia (2) and Kilifi (1).
Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary, Mary Muthoni, said Mpox is a viral disease that can be transmitted from animals to humans, and in some cases, from human to human.
Speaking during a sensitisation meeting at a Nairobi hotel, Muthoni said following the new cases, the total number of Mpox cases reported in the country has now hit 36 from across 12 counties.
Others are Nairobi, Kajiado, Bungoma, Taita Taveta, Kericho, and Kilifi with two cases each, as well as one case each from Makueni, Kiambu, and Uasin Gishu respectively.
“MoH has put in place robust surveillance and close monitoring of travelers in collaboration with other partners who have come in handy to make sure we have the necessary capacity to respond,” Muthoni said.
This includes close monitoring of travellers, especially those coming from countries where there is an active outbreak and the provision of timely information to healthcare providers and the public across the country.
The Ministry of Health has taken proactive steps in coordination with key stakeholders, including the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF, and other partners, to ensure that we have the necessary capacity to respond.
This includes strengthening our health system, providing our health workers with the necessary training and personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensuring that diagnostic tools are readily available in our laboratories.
