Fifa ratifies Kenya’s indefinite suspension from international football activities

The world football governing body has today ratified Kenya’s indefinite suspension from all international football activities during the Fifa Congress in Doha, Qatar.

The Kenyan government has had a one-month window to relinquish management of the country’s football and allow the beleaguered Football Kenya Federation (FKF) back in charge.

The confirmation saw 198 Fifa members vote for the suspension while one voted against.

Other countries that were also suspended indefinitely during the 72nd Congress were Zimbabwe and Pakistan.

The Fifa Council suspended the FKF on February 24, 2022, with immediate effect due to third-party (government) interference.

This was after the takeover of FKF activities by a government-appointed ‘caretaker committee’ in lieu of the executive committee and general secretary, which constituted a serious violation of the Fifa Statutes.

The suspension will only be lifted once the pertinent requirements have been fulfilled.

These include the return of the mandate to run football activities to the executive committee and the general secretary.
