Ex-Stars coach Engin Firat registers dispute against FKF with FIFA over unpaid dues

The circus of Kenyan football continues unabated following yet another matter drawing the attention of FIFA.
This is after immediate former Harambee Stars Head Coach Engin Firat took Kenya’s football administration to the international governing body over an accrued debt of Ksh 75 million. The Turkish national resigned in a huff after failing to qualify Kenya for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
A demand letter has been sent to the new FKF President Hussein Mohamed after the grace period of 14 days went unanswered. Firat had made up his mind following immediate former Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said that the Kenyan Government was working on modalities to terminate the 54 year old’s contract.
“Since we were the ones, who were funding the coach as a Ministry, we will upon the period being attained and the circumstances that have befallen the coach, as a result of failing to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, it is rather obvious that of course we will implement that section of the law and we will not remit any other funds beyond the period that was agreed.”
Mohammed confirmed as well that he had received the demand notice and further explained that Firat had tendered his resignation on grounds of pending arrears.
“I want to confirm that Firat’s termination reached me on (Tuesday) in the evening, I was not privy to it and definitely we will do an internal audit first on the claims of arrears (owed to him) and once the report comes out, we will deal with the matter but the grounds of termination is the pending arrears,” said Mohammed at the time.
Firat’s agent (Coast Sports Management) is handling the matter with the Kenyan football authorities his camp is already citing frustrations. The Ex Moldova Coach handled the Kenyan national team between September 19, 2021-December 12, 2024. During that period, the Istanbul born tactician managed 22 matches for Harambee Stars (W-6,D-7,L-9).
Firat, in a statement to newsrooms, said: “There is nothing from FKF side, nothing, no answer, no offer,, and I gave it all to my agent so I think now at this moment, I need only to give authorization to the lawyer and then it will go like these because it must be done by the lawyer and I see there is no movement in Kenya.”
“The new FKF President Hussein (Mohammed) called me, and explained to him the situation and that is all, after that I did not hear anything anymore,” said Firat, who expressed displeasure with Murkomen over his lack of goodwill and disrespect.
