European Union has committed to keep its word on ensuring that it helps the Kenyan government evacuate all Kenyans stranded in Ukraine.
EU Ambassador to Kenya Henriette Geiger assured Kenyan families with their family members in Ukraine that it is in the process of ensuring that Kenyans without the ability to buy air tickets to come back home can do so as soon as possible.
Geiger asked Kenyans not to rely on the rumours that indicate discrimination cases and only to believe verified reports.
He insisted that neighbouring countries and members of the EU have offered refuge to those seeking asylum.
The EU countries have waived restrictive measures such as visas, vaccination, and travel documents such as passports.
Over 200 Kenyans are stranded in Ukraine, most of whom are students; some have gotten access to neighbouring countries.
“The EU regrets the incorrect and skewed media reporting on this issue that has repeatedly appeared in various Kenyan outlets and social media and calls for careful verification of facts,” she added.
Ukraine Ambassador to Kenya Andrii Pravednyk says that there has been no discrimination while all persons seeking asylum in the different EU are getting it following the international humanitarian law, which prioritises women and children.
