Edelvale Trust Jamaa Home and Mission Hospital employee Charles Omondi face theft charges  

An employee of Edelvale Trust Jamaa Home and Mission Hospital in Nairobi was yesterday arraigned to face the offence of stealing Sh5.5 million from his employer.

While appearing before Milimani principal magistrate Gilbert Shikwe, Charles Omondi Okuro was charged with stealing by servant the money which came in to his possession by virtue of his employment.

The prosecution told the court that on diverse dates between January 20, 2020 and September 30, 2024, at Edelvale Trust Jamaa Home and Mission Hospital in Nairobi county within the Republic of Kenya being the employee of the company in the position of Credit Control Officer stole Sh5,569,035.

The court heard that the money was the property of the said hospital.

He was charged with another count of fraudulent false accounting contrary to section 330 (a) of the Penal Code.

Being the servant of Edelvale Trust Jamaa Home and Mission Hospital, with intent to defraud, Okuro falsified bank account details belonging to his employer.

He denied the charges levelled against him before the court.

He applied to be released on favourable bond terms indicating that he is a family man currently with no employment.

He urged the court to consider him since he lost his job and following the hard economic times he will encounter with challenges on raising bail,

“Your honour I beg for leniency while granting bond or cash bail and I can assure this honourable court that I will be availing myself whenever I am required.” He submitted.

He was released on bond of Sh1million with a surety of the same amount or alternative cash bail of Sh500,000 with one contact person.

The matter will be mentioned on January 20, 2025 for pre-trial.
