EACC move to recover salaries paid to public officers with fake degrees

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission(EACC)has stated that it is pursuing the recovery of payments obtained by public officials using forged academic credentials.

The anti-graft organization announced on its Twitter account that many public employees had faked their academic documents in order to obtain their positions or be promoted to senior ones.

“Forgery of academic certificates has become prevalent in the public service. this is not only a crime but also a violation of chapter 6 of the constitution. We are investigating suspected public officials and will seek to recover salaries earned on fake academic qualifications,” it said.

The country will today observe Africa Anti-Corruption Day at Strathmore University with the theme “Elect Integrity Leaders to Improve Transparency and Accountability.”

For weeks, the topic of bogus academic papers has been in the spotlight as politicians battle for a seat on the ballot in next month’s general election.

Higher education institutions in the country have already raised the issue of academic paper forgery in order to secure job placement or progress.
