EABC, Trade Mark East Africa partner with EAC to unlock economic potential

The East African Business Council (EABC) and Trade Mark East Africa have partnered with the East Africa Community (EAC) institutions to unlock economic potential through increased physical access to markets.

The partnership will also unlock economic potential through enhanced trade environment with an objective of advancing the EAC integration process through trade and investment.

In a convention held today by EABC and its partners, the body affirms that by encouraging excellence and boosting national, regional, and international engagement with East African governments, people, and business, it will be demonstrating its leadership position in creating a thriving private sector environment.

“The strength of the East African Economic Council comes from its wide membership base, which is robust and diverse in the various business sectors in the area,” Mucai Kunyiha the Director of the Council said.

In addition to Corporates interested in the EAC integration process and activities in the region, he said that EABC has strong partnerships with regional, national, and sectorial Private Sector groups.

The convention underscored that consolidating of product standards and having a common mandatory product certification scheme will be an enabler to unlocking East African economic potential.

Pavin Beda, the Head of Public and Private dialogue said that the main goals of EABC are to act as a powerful change agent in order to create an environment that is favorable to business and to increase regional and international trade and investment competitiveness for the private sector.

“With the overarching goal of improving the business climate through targeted policy reforms, EABC thus offers a regional forum for the business community to voice its concerns at the EAC policy level,” he said.

Beda added that EABC also aims to increase the private sector’s regional and international competitiveness in trade and investment by addressing issues that Members face at the organizational and business levels and by offering specialized market intelligence.
