Drive to kick polio out of Kenya starts on August 4 in 12 counties

Beginning 4 to 8 August, the Ministry of Health, backed by UNICEF and WHO, is immunising all children aged five or under against polio.

This new round of immunisation targets children in 12 high-risk counties.

This campaign is aimed at dealing the polio virus a deadly blow by achieving 100 per cent immunisation.

To stem the risk of the polio virus spreading across the country, the ministry is immunising children in the 12 counties it has identified as high risk.

These counties are: Nairobi, Kajiado, Kiambu, Kitui, Machakos, Meru, Isiolo, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera.

During the campaign period, health workers will move from house to house in these counties to vaccinate all children under the age of five years.

The Ministry of Health appeals to all members of the public to help make the campaign a huge success.

The appeal is to families with children aged five years and below to present the young ones for immunisation.

Neighbours are requested to spread this message and to report any children who have not been immunised.
