Drama as police arrest two suspects ferrying bhang in Migori
Eagle-hawked eye sleuths based in Awendo, Migori County have detained two suspects and recovered sacks of bhang stuffed at the back seat of a Toyota Premio saloon car after a tip-off from members of the public.
According to the police, the driver of the car who is now in police custody, Benard Momanyi, 38, defied orders to stop when he was flagged down at a police roadblock.
In his desperate efforts to escape, he dangerously run over police spikes deflating both the front and rear wheels of his car and continued to speed on flat tyres.
The officers on duty immediately sprang into action and gave a chase whereby they caught up with the suspects, fortunately saving them from further endangering their lives.
The passenger in the car, Thomas Macheine Kuria, 27, was also arrested alongside the driver and the haul of bhang of undeclared value was recovered and kept as exhibits.
The two will be arraigned in court to answer to charges that will include trafficking of bhang. Detectives on site lauded the area residents for the partnership that led to the successful arrest of the notorious drug traffickers.
They asked law-abiding citizens to join hands together and get rid of the menace that has ruined the lives of many young people some of who have turned to crime and irresponsible behaviour to fund their illegal indulgence.
