DP Gachagua intensifies bid to quell infighting amongst Meru leaders
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has intensified efforts to reconcile rival Meru leaders’ days after the botched impeachment attempt against Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza.
The DP is expected to host all Meru elected leaders at his private residence in Mathira, Nyeri County in spirited attempts aimed at ironing out perceived differences between them.
This will be the second time he will be meeting the leaders in a bid to broker a truce.
“I have prayed for the people of Meru where the challenges of leadership are threatening development. The president has assigned me the responsibility of creating peace among the leaders, a journey I have started and I have come here to seek God’s guidance on this task,” said Gachagua during an early Sunday morning trek within the Mt. Kenya conservancy.
“The people of Meru are hardworking and they deserve much more. Their development agenda will suffer if the leadership challenges are not dealt with. I have prayed that God touches the leaders’ and hearts so that they can put aside their differences for the sake of the people.” The DP added.
Few days after the August 9 polls, agitated members of the Meru County Assembly impeached Kawira accusing her of high-handedness in her style of leadership.
Mwangaza was however saved by the Senator Boni Khalwale led Senate’s Special Committee which dismissed all the five accusations levelled against her terming them unsubstantiated.
