A doctor yesterday testified that he faked medical records for Migori Governor Okoth Obado’s personal assistant on the day Sharon Otieno was murdered.
Cliff Momanyi, a clinical officer based at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, presented copies of the forged medical records in court saying that the forgeries happened on September 4, 2018, the same day the body of Sharon was discovered at Kodera Forest in Oyugis town.
“The patient (Michael Oyamo) did not even come to the hospital but I was requested to fill the medical records form in which I indicated he suffered accidental suffocation and strangulation by unknown people,” said Momanyi.
He said the information he filled in the medical form is not with the hospital because he generated the documents from his computer.
The medic got the details of how to fill in the outpatient card from one Justus Magati who is yet to testify in the case.
He is the one who called Momanyi on September 4 and gave him the name of the patient as Oyamo.
Magati asked for filling of medical documents on behalf of Oyamo and also gave the details of Oyamo’s injuries to Momanyi.
The witness told the trial Judge Cecilia Githua that when he was filling in the medical records, Oyamo was not physically present with him.
He also said one of the forms was to indicate that Oyamo needed referral from Kisii to Kisumu hospital.
Momanyi’s clinical notes further said Oyamo was assaulted by unknown persons and was brought into hospital while unconscious by unknown persons.
“Signs of strangulation were evident. He had back pain and lower limb weakness. That is what formed part of the clinical note I generated,” the witness said.
“It was dated September 4, 2018. Time was 12:01pm.”
Asked by the prosecutor how he knew the residence of Oyamo to be Uriri, the witness said he was told by Justus.
A police officer, Willy Okoti, who testified previously told the court that one of the protected witnesses had informed him that it was Oyamo who had handed them over to the kidnappers on September 3, 2018, at Graca Hotel in Rongo town within Migori County.
According to the officer, Oyamo met Sharon and the witness at the hotel and requested that they board a vehicle to a different location. He testified that Ms Sharon and the witness entered the waiting vehicle while in the company of Oyamo but after about 30m, Oyamo alighted and called two other people who were standing beside the road to get in.
As soon as the two new strangers entered the vehicle, it sped towards Homa Bay town.
It was the last time Sharon was seen alive.
Obado, Oyamo and former Migori County clerk Caspal Obiero are facing murder charges.
They are alleged to have killed Ms Sharon and her seven-month unborn baby on September 3, 2018, at Kowade in Rachuonyo Sub-County within Homa Bay county.
