Detectives recover over 3,000 bottles of counterfeit alcohol in Makueni

Detectives have recovered a consignment of fake alcoholic drinks bearing fake KRA stamps in Makueni county.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), over 3,000 bottles of alcoholic drinks were recovered during a raid at a store belonging to one Daniel Musau in Kikima market.

“The raid followed intelligence-led investigations by a joint team of detectives and KRA officials who raided the premises belonging to one Daniel Musau,” DCI said.

The raid is part of an ongoing crackdown by the government targeting traders engaging in tax evasion schemes.

Last month, police in Kericho have arrested a man carrying hundreds of bottles containing counterfeit alcohol with fake KRA stamps.

According to the police, the man was intercepted at Chepsir area along the busy Nakuru-Kericho highway ferrying some 420 cartoons containing the counterfeit liquor worth Sh900,000.

Upon conducting a search, police recovered 420 cartons containing thousands of bottles of counterfeit brand ‘Best’ spirit.

The crackdown follows directives from President William Ruto to tame crooked businessmen who have devised new ways of evading taxation.
