Detectives probe incident of minor whose eyes were gouged out in Kisii county

Detectives have launched investigations into the bizarre incident that left a three-year-old boy from Ikuruma village in Marani, Kisii county admitted in hospital after his eyes were gouged out by unknown people.

Doctors informed the parents of Junior Sagini, the victim of the horrendous attack, that he will remain blind for his entire life.

Rael Mayieka, the boy’s grandmother said it all started when her grandson, Junior Sagini, had gone to fetch water on Thursday evening from a nearby spring.

He was in the company of other children but it is said that he threw his jerrycan into a nearby thicket and started running away.

When the other children got home with their jerrycans full of water, they informed Sagini’s grandmother what had happened.

She went to the spring searching for her grandson, but he was nowhere to be seen.

“We tried to look for him but all our efforts proved futile. The following day, his elder brother who had gone to cut grass for the cows pounced on him in a maize plantation and he came home panting to inform us. We rushed to the scene and found the boy writhing in pain and his eyes gouged out,” Mayieka said.

Police have questioned the father of the boy, Thomas Ongaga- who lives with the children alone after separating from their mother.

County police boss Mutungi Musyoki, however, said they are only questioning the father as part of the preliminary investigations.

The motive of the heinous act remains unknown as a manhunt for the suspects continues.
