Court orders Agnes Tirop’s husband to take mental health test

The High Court in Eldoret has ordered the husband of the slain Olympian Agnes Tirop to undergo a mental health test before entering a plea.

Ibrahim Kipkemboi, the prime suspect in the murder of the star athlete will be taken for mental assessment at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Eldoret.

Eldoret Deputy Registrar Diana Milimo ordered that Rotich be produced before the court on November 16 to be charged with the murder.

State Counsel David Fedha said the suspect had to undergo mental tests before
being formally charged.

“We are here just to apply for the suspect to be escorted for the mental assessment before being brought back for plea taking,” Fedha said.

Kipkemboi’s lawyer, Ngige Mbugua, did not oppose the application.

Kipkemboi is expected to answer to murder charges on Tuesday next week.

Tirop was found stabbed to death in her home in the Rift Valley town of Iten on October 13.

A postmortem revealed that she died after being stabbed on the neck and being hit by a blunt object in the head.
